The Master had preached about servant hood,
\nThat for righteousness they should all thirst,
\nWhile those at the table were quarreling,
\nAbout glory and who would be first.<\/p>\n
They thought He would ring in the kingdom,
\nThrough force and a mighty right hand,
\nBut He gave them much more to think about,
\nWhile He taught them of God\u2019s holy plan.<\/p>\n
The men He had chosen had much to learn,
\nAnd the Master a short time to teach,
\nSo He decided to get their attention,
\nBy His actions and not by His speech.<\/p>\n
His actions shocked them to silence,
\nWhat they witnessed beyond their belief,
\nIt was a lesson they would never forget,
\nAs they looked on in stunned disbelief.<\/p>\n
The Master took up a basin,
\nThe lowliest servant would use,
\nAnd proceeded to wash their dirty feet,
\nUntil Peter gave voice to refuse.<\/p>\n
\u201cLord never shall you wash my feet,\u201d
\nNot knowing what Christ was teaching,
\nLater he would realize that what Jesus did,
\nForeshadowed and was much more far-reaching,<\/p>\n
Still the Master stoops down to serve in love,
\nThose He calls and He loves till the end,
\nAnd those who let Jesus cleanse their sin,
\nFind Him Savior, Redeemer and Friend.<\/p>\n
