Authority – Light in the Shadow

Authority

When we abide in the Lord Jesus Christ,
We can speak with the utmost authority,
And when we stand fast in His Holy Word,
One plus God is a landslide majority.

Light in the Shadow

Identify the enemy’s lie,
A good friend said to me,
Bring it captive to Jesus Christ,
And His truth shall set you free.
See the darkness- flee the darkness,
Run to the light instead,
Abide in the shadow of Calvary’s cross,
Where God’s precious blood was shed.

Stand Alone Stanzas

Given, Not Taken

Our peace cannot be taken from us,
It can only be given away,
For our peace is a person,
The Lord Jesus Christ,
Who now lives in these vessels of clay.

Ephesians 2:14,  2 Corinthians 4:7

The Uttermost

We are saved by grace
Through faith in Christ
We have nothing in which to boast,
Except in the blood
Of the spotless Lamb
Who saves sinners to the uttermost.

Ephesians 2:8 & 9,  Galatians 6:14,  Hebrews 7:25

His Heart’s Desire

The King rode toward Jerusalem,
On the back of a donkey’s foal,
The masses thought He came to rule,
And to give them back control,
But as He reached Jerusalem,
He wept- they did not understand,
His mission was to set captives free,
Not from Rome but from Satan’s cruel hand,
The King could have set up His kingdom on earth,
In an instant- in the blink of an eye,
But He wanted instead to reign in man’s heart,
So alone He walked Calvary to die.

Instead

I’m eternally grateful for what Christ did,
So floored that God’s own blood was shed,
That the sinless Lamb suffered Calvary’s cross,
When I should have hung there instead.

Prelude to the Cross

“Not My will but Yours be done,”
Christ proclaimed in Gethsemane’s garden,
Solemnly knowing what He had to do,
To purchase the sinner’s full pardon.

His sweat became mingled with life-giving blood,
On that night of most anguished prayer,
His friends fast slept from weariness,
Though Christ had told them beware.

Royal Blood Shed

As Your blood flowed through Your human pores
You endured it in order to make us Yours
As the crown of thorns punctured Your regal head
For our sin Your royal blood flowed crimson red
As cold steel pierced sinless flesh and bone
You endured it so we would not face death alone

One and the Other

Both men received the same sentence,
Both would serve the same penalty,
One man would live in paradise,
The other too blinded to see.

One’s heart was stonily calloused,
His sins he refused to see,
The other fully acknowledging,
Why he’d been led to Mt. Calvary
