Cannot?

“I cannot believe in your God,”
The atheist brashly said.
But does he believe that in his heart,
Or only in his head?

“I cannot believe in anything,
Except what my eyes can see.”
But can an atheist explain this world,
How and why it came to be?

“I cannot believe in Jesus Christ,
That He rose up from the dead.”
But doesn’t he more truly mean,
I choose not to believe instead?

MT 2020

Ecclesiastes 3:11 NKJV
He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also He has put eternity in their hearts, except that no one can find out the work that God does from beginning to end.

Where?

Where does God hide the wind?
On a still and windless day.
And where does the darkness take refuge?
When the sunlight chases it away.

MT 2019

Job 38:19-20 NKJV

[19] “Where is the way to the dwelling of light? And darkness, where is its place, [20] That you may take it to its territory, That you may know the paths to its home?

Pondering Illusion

As I ponder the path of my life,
I have come to a reasoned conclusion,
The thought that I control my own destiny,
Is fantasy and delusion.

For we all will meet our Maker one day,
No exception and no exclusion,
And If we live now like there is no God,
In the end He will shatter that illusion.

MT 2019

2 Corinthians 5:10 NKJV

[10] For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.

Stand Alone Stanzas

Whispers and Thunder

Sometimes the Almighty whispers,
Other times His voice booms like thunder,
Knowing God condescends to speak to men,
Fills my heart with sheer joy and pure wonder.

John 10:27  NKJV  My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.

Stars and Scars

He’s as close as the softest whisper,
Yet as far as the most distant stars,
He is shrouded in a cloud of unknowing,
Yet revealed through Calvary’s cruel scars.

Eph 3:8  NKJV  To me, who am less than the least of all the saints, this grace was given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ,

Self-Made

If our self-made kingdoms
Came crashing down,
Where would our help
And our hope be found?

Mark Tinjum   2017

Mat 7:26 NKJV  “But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand:

The Asking

I asked the Lord for an answer,
He replied, “The time is not now.”
I wanted to state and debate my case,
But instead chose to worship and bow.

I asked Him for signs and wonders,
To show His love for me,
Then broke down and wept bitterly,
When I remembered cruel Mt. Calvary.

I asked Him to change my heart and mind,
He smiled and whispered, “It’s done,”
“And I’ll do it each day for the rest of your life,”
“I am faithful to complete what’s begun.”

Mark Tinjum  2017

Philippians 1:6  NKJV
being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ;

What Did I Do?

What did I do to deserve a God,
As patient and loving as You?
Nothing is the word that comes to mind,
It’s because You are faithful and true.
What did You ever see in my life,
Except for the wreckage and mess?
Lord I’m so glad to have a God like You,
Who is moved by my pain and distress.

What did I ever do dear Lord,
To deserve such wondrous grace?
Such lavish love and mercy,
That You willingly died in my place?
Why did You grant such great favor,
To one so unworthy as I?
Praise, glory and honor to Jesus,
Is my joyful and humble reply.

Which One?

In this beautiful, broken, sin-stained world
Good and evil both exist
And moment by moment we must all choose
Which we’ll follow and which we’ll resist
For we all have freedom God bestowed it on us
With our choices we all cast our lot
In the end Christ will say to us one of two things
Enter in…or I knew you not.
