Instead

I’m eternally grateful for what Christ did,
So floored that God’s own blood was shed,
That the sinless Lamb suffered Calvary’s cross,
When I should have hung there instead.

A Lamb Among Wolves

They led Him away bound with chains,
To the mob gathered by the High Priest,
The ones who the very night before,
Celebrated the Passover feast.

He faced off against His accusers alone,
For His friends had forsaken and fled,
The High Priest deemed Him deserving of death,
Long before any words had been said.

Free Will Offering

Only by offering us freedom to choose
Could we give God true love and affection,
He allows us the right to call Him our God,
As well as the right of rejection.

The Alter

Squirming on God’s alter
So afraid to lay down my life,
The Lord lifted up His hand over me
Moonlight flashed off the cold steel knife,
My mind was reeling and racing
My thoughts conflicting, confused,
Why was He choosing this path for me,
And the method He now chose to use?

Desire

I don’t desire
To be a good man
In order to earn salvation,
I’m saved so I seek
To be a good man
To show I’m Christ’s new creation.

Prelude to the Cross

“Not My will but Yours be done,”
Christ proclaimed in Gethsemane’s garden,
Solemnly knowing what He had to do,
To purchase the sinner’s full pardon.

His sweat became mingled with life-giving blood,
On that night of most anguished prayer,
His friends fast slept from weariness,
Though Christ had told them beware.

Thunder and Roses

You hold all of creation
In the palm of Your hand
From the most majestic mountain
To the tiniest grain of sand
The diversity of all Your creation
So intriguing and filled with wonder
The fragrance of roses in springtime
The power of lightning and thunder.
